Item 1006

DESIGN: UniCopter ~ Engine - Cooling - Air Ducting: for Rotax 912 S

Drawing:

Maybe in future

General Notes:

Air flow should be about 1000 ft3 per minute. This may be for a 2-cylinder and the 4-cylinder will require more.

For 2,000 ft3 per minute to flow through a 4" diameter opening (12.57 in2) the velocity of the air must be 260 mph.

For 2,000 ft3 per minute to flow through a 5" diameter opening (19.64 in2) the velocity of the air must be 166 mph.

For 2,000 ft3 per minute to flow through a 6" diameter opening (28.28 in2) the velocity of the air must be 115 mph.

The diameter of the exhaust pipe will reduce the above areas slightly.

The Rotax 912 S Installation manual on page 12-1 says that the minimum cross section of the air ducts for air cooling of the engine should be at least 16 in2.

The Rotax 912 S Installation manual on page 11-4 says that the area of the water radiator should be at least 78 in2 (10" diameter).
