OTHER: Rotor Concept - Independent Root & Tip - Floating Root Method

Overview:

This is the Absolutely Rigid Rotor except that the skin at the root end rotates independently from the rest of the blade.

Notes:

This method is probably the simplest, fastest and cheapest to implement.

The spar does not flex in plane or out-of -plane, but it does rotate about the feathering axis. The skin is firmly attached to the spar at the tip end, only. The tip pitch horn rotates the spar, which in turn rotates the tip of the blade. The root pitch horn rotates the skin about the spar at the root end and the skin twists along its span. The skin at the root end is controlled by the root pitch horn.

It may be possible to have the root (and its bearing) take all the centrifugal forces, and the tip and spar take the in-plane and out-of-plane loads. For this, the skin must be very strong in the spanwise direction. The tip (and its bearing) will only take the tip end of the in-plane and out-of-plane loads. The tip loads may still be too great for not having to use power assist.

The spar will have a 45/45 overwrap so that it will not twist.

This blade and its spar may be stronger and therefore a better candidate for an asymmetrically airfoil, such as the NACA230xx.
